Royal Oak, Mich.

On Dec. 7, inspectors from the Dearborn and East Lansing Circuits in the Office of Field Operations Chicago District made holiday wishes come true, delivering gifts to “Child Safe Michigan,” a foster care and adoption mentoring agency that serves abused and neglected children in southeast Michigan. The children had made a wish list of gifts, and Child Safe Michigan accepted the inspectors’ donations for the children.

North Aurora, Ill.

On Nov. 16, Administrator Paul Kiecker met with inspection personnel at a beef slaughter and processing establishment. The team spoke about their individual career paths ­— they ranged in experience from starting their first year to working for FSIS for decades. On Nov. 17, Administrator Paul Kiecker met with inspection personnel at a beef slaughter and processing establishment. Inspection personnel shared their prior work experience and why they joined FSIS. Kiecker spoke about shadow and development opportunities (see Notice 38-22), tuition reimbursement available to all employees (see Notice 34-22), the importance of communication and how carcasses and parts are presented to FSIS for inspection at establishment with beef waivers.

On Nov. 11, the consumer safety inspectors (CSI) of the Philadelphia Circuit gathered behind the 623 items they had collected during their October hygiene drive in support of victims of domestic violence. The items were donated to the Salvation Army’s Eliza Shirley Shelter for women and children in Philadelphia and to the Winyan Wicayuonihan Oyanke shelter for women in Porcupine, S.D.

On Oct. 27, the inspection team at a poultry slaughter and processing establishment participated in Feds Feed Families by donating food, clothes, and sanitary items to Open Arms, Inc., a non-profit organization serving victims of child abuse, neglect and homelessness.

Harrisonburg, Va.

On Nov. 10, Administrator Paul Kiecker and leaders from USDA’s Office of Budget & Program Analysis (OBPA) and FSIS’ Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) visited a poultry slaughter and processing establishment.

Both offices play important roles in supporting FSIS’ public health objectives. OBPA coordinates preparation of USDA's budget estimates, legislative reports and regulations; and OCFO leads development of FSIS' financial policy, manages accounting systems, and prepares financial reports.
