USDA Recall Classifications

Class I - High or Medium Risk
This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
Class II - Low Risk
This is a health hazard situation where there is a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product.
Class III - Marginal Risk
This is a situation where the use of the product will not cause adverse health consequences.

WASHINGTON, 26 de julio del 2016 ñ Good Food Concepts, LLC, bajo el nombre comercial de Ranch Foods Direct, un establecimiento localizado en Colorado Springs, Colorado, est· retirando del mercado aproximadamente 2,606 libras de productos no intactos de carne de res que podrÌan estar contaminados con E. coli O157:H7, anunciÛ hoy el Departamento de Agricultura de E.U. (U.S. Department of Agricultureís Food Safety and Inspection Service ñ FSIS por sus siglas en inglÈs).

Los productos sujetos a esta retirada portan el n˙mero de establecimiento ìEST. 27316î dentro del sello de inspecciÛn de USDA y las fechas de empaque (ìPACKED ONî) de 6, 7 y 8 del 2016. Estos artÌculos fueron enviados a establecimientos de venta al por mayor y al detal en Colorado.

El 14 de julio del 2016, FSIS fue notificado de una enfermedad causada por E. coli O157:H7, posiblemente asociada con el consumo de carne de res molida. Trabajando en coordinaciÛn con el Departamento de Salud P˙blica y del Medio Ambiente del Estado de Colorado y con el Departamento de Salud del Condado de El Paso, FSIS determinÛ que existe una posible conexiÛn entre los productos de carne de res molida provenientes de la compaÒÌa Ranch Foods Direct y esta enfermedad. Bas·ndose en una investigaciÛn epidemiolÛgica, el caso de un paciente ha sido identificado en Colorado con fecha de inicio de la enfermedad del 12 de junio del 2016. Mediante pruebas de laboratorio e investigaciones de rastreo, FSIS confirmÛ el 25 de julio del 2016 que productos de carne de res molida provenientes de Ranch Foods Direct fueron adulterados con E. coli O157:H7. FSIS contin˙a trabajando con el Departamento de Salud P˙blica y del Medio Ambiente del Estado de Colorado y con el Departamento de Salud del Condado de El Paso en esta investigaciÛn y proveer· informaciÛn actualizada en cuanto estÈ disponible.

E. coli O157:H7 es una bacteria potencialmente mortal que puede causar deshidrataciÛn, diarrea con sangre y cÛlicos abdominales entre 1 y 10 dias despuÈs de haber consumido alimentos contaminados. La mayorÌa de las personas se recuperan en un plazo de una semana. Sin embargo, algunas desarrollan un tipo de falla renal llamada sÌndrome urÈmico hemolÌtico (SUH). Esta condiciÛn puede ocurrir entre personas de cualquier edad pero es m·s com˙n en los niÒos menores de 5 aÒos y en las personas de edad avanzada. Est· caracterizada por hematomas o moretones frecuentes, palidez y disminuciÛn de la producciÛn de orina. Las personas que experimenten estos sÌntomas deber·n buscar atenciÛn mÈdica de emergencia inmediatamente.

FSIS y la compaÒÌa tienen la preocupaciÛn de que algunos de estos productos pudiesen estar siendo almacenados en los congeladores de algunos consumidores.

Se le recomienda a los consumidores que hayan comprado estos productos no consumirlos. Estos productos deben ser desechados o devueltos al establecimiento comercial donde fueron comprados.

FSIS verifica rutinariamente la efectividad de las retiradas para asegurarse de que la compaÒÌa notifique a sus clientes acerca de la retirada y estÈ tomando los pasos necesarios para que el producto ya no estÈ disponible a los consumidores. Cuando estÈ disponible, la lista (s) de distribuciÛn de puntos de venta ser· publicada en la p·gina de internet de FSIS en www.fsis.usda.gov/avisos.

FSIS le aconseja a todos los consumidores que presten especial atenciÛn a la hora de preparar alimentos que contengan carnes crudas, ya sean frescas o congeladas, y que solamente consuman carne de res molida que haya sido cocida hasta alcanzar una temperatura mÌnima interna de 160∞ F (71.1 ∞C). L·vese las manos con agua tibia y jabÛn al menos por 20 segundos antes y despuÈs de manejar carnes y aves crudas. Lave las tablas de cortar, platos y utensilios en agua caliente y jabÛn. Limpie cualquier derrame inmediatamente.

Mantenga las carnes, aves y pescados crudos lejos de otros alimentos que ser·n consumidos sin cocinar o que ya est·n listos para el consumo. Use una tabla de cortar para carnes, aves y productos de huevo crudos y otra diferente para alimentos cocidos.

El color de las carnes no es un indicador seguro de que estas han sido cocidas a temperaturas lo suficientemente altas como para matar bacterias daÃ’inas.

La ˙nica forma de asegurarse que las carnes y las aves han sido cocidas a temperaturas lo suficientemente altas como para matar bacterias daÒinas es usando un termÛmetro de alimentos para medir la temperatura interna de dichas carnes:

  • Pescado: 145 ∞F
  • Filetes/chuletas/asados de carne de res, cerdo o borrego: 145 ∞F seguido por tres minutos de descanso
